Stainless Steel 310 / 310S / 310H (W-Nr. 1.4845; UNS S31000 / S31008 / S31009) Alloy 310 is an austenitic stainless steel specifically designed for high-temperature applications. Due to its high chromium and nickel content, this alloy offers excellent oxidation resistance up to 1100°C, even under cyclic conditions.
It also provides resistance to sulfurization and can be used in moderately carburizing atmospheres. For severely carburizing environments, nickel-based alloys such as Alloy 330 are recommended.
Additionally, Alloy 310 can be used in mild oxidizing, nitriding, and carburizing atmospheres, as well as in cryogenic applications due to its low magnetic permeability and toughness down to -268°C.
In many cases, the grain structure and chemical composition comply with both specifications (S and H).
Stainless steel 310 is not intended for aqueous corrosive environments due to its high carbon content. However, its 25% chromium and 0.6% silicon content ensure excellent high-temperature corrosion resistance under the following conditions:
In reducing conditions, its performance is outmatched by Alloy 600 (UNS N06600) or Alloy 800 (UNS N08800), but it remains superior to conventional stainless steels.

Alloy 310 can be easily welded using all standard welding methods: TIG, MIG, PLASMA, SMAW, SAW, FCAW. Use matching 310-type filler metal or an equivalent alloy for best results.
