General Characteristics

Nichel 200 (W-Nr. 2.4066 / 2.4060, UNS N02200)
Initially, the material was used for transporting chemicals and for aerospace components. Later, due to its physical properties—including magnetic and magnetostrictive behavior, thermal and electrical conductivity, and the ability to be produced in wire form—its applications expanded into electrical and electronic fields, such as high-power radio valves and vacuum infrared emitters.

Nichel 201 (W-Nr. 2.4061 / 2.4068, UNS N02201)
Nickel 201 will not form graphite after prolonged exposure to elevated temperatures, provided that carbon-containing materials do not come into contact with it. However, the material is subject to intergranular embrittlement caused by sulfur compounds above 315°C (600°F), so processing fluids and external sources of sulfur must be eliminated to prevent damage during manufacturing and later use. Nickel 201 is approved for pressure vessel service (ASME VIII Div. 1) up to 1250°F.

Nickel 201 has good resistance to a variety of acids and alkaline solutions. However, its primary use is in the electrolytic extraction of caustic soda from salt solutions and the subsequent concentration processes. With excellent resistance to both distilled and natural water—through the formation of a consistent oxide film—the material is also used in the food processing industry. Nickel 201 is available in all standard product forms, including bars, plates, sheets, strips, wire, pipe fittings, pipes, flanges, and fasteners, along with welding consumables for most welding methods, except oxy-acetylene.

Nichel 200/201 (W-Nr. 2.4060/61/66/68, UNS N02200/N02201)
It is often dual-certified as a result of processing that ensures the strength of Nickel 200 combined with the compositionally controlled stability of Nickel 201.
